Charles Sims, MD, to Represent the Association of Family Cord Blood Banks

California Cryobank, parent company of Family Cord Blood Services, announced today that their company founder and medical director Charles A. Sims, MD, is not appointed to the Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration Advisory Council on Blood Stem Cell Transplantation.

He will be representing the Association of Family Cord Blood Banks (AFCBB). The AFCBB represents the family cord blood banking industry, advocating matters of public policy, industry regulation, and the creation of industry standards by accrediting associations.

The Advisory Council on Blood Stem Cell Transplantation (ACBSCT) is currently composed of 23 members who serve as special government employees. Other members represent various marrow donor centers and transplant centers, patients treated with bone marrow or cord blood transplants, medical researchers, also members of the general public.

Their first ACBSCT meeting is to be held on 28 and 29 January in Washington, D.C. It will be open to the public, with limited available seating. Pre-registration is available and recommended for those interested in attending.
